Proctor District of North Tacoma, Washington
Tacoma Washington's Proctor District is one of the most sought after communities in the south Puget Sound region. It is largely defined by its outstanding shopping district which features gourmet grocer Metropolitan Market (formerly Queen Anne Trhiftway). There is a terrifc mix of specialty boutiques including a hobby shop, a used book store, many gift shops and great places to eat. Washington's oldest bowling alley is located here and a movie theatre. In addition, there are parks, hiking trails and great Tacoma schools, including the newly remodeled Mason Middle School,now celebrating 75 years in operation
Many homes in the area offer views of Commencement Bay and Mount Rainier. In the summertime, some of these same homes offer prime viewing of the annual Tacoma, Washington Fireworks display on the 4th of July. Most homes were built after the turn of the 20th Century. Architectural styles vary. Common styles here include Craftsman, Bungalow, Tudor, English Cottage and Colonial, to name a few. Home prices range from about $150,000 on the low-end for a 2 bedroom home, up to over half a million for a larger view property.
The Proctor District is right in the heart of North End Tacoma, close to Point Defiance Park, freeway access, the waterfront, University of Puget Sound, UW Tacoma campus, hospitals and much more. The Proctor Saturday Farmers' Market begins May 31st and continues thru mid October. Fresh produce, flowers and plants are offered at North 27th & Proctor as well as live music and food.
